Offord out for the year [26 Sep 2005|03:57pm]

STrib Vikings blog reports that Willie Offord was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season. That's a pretty big blow to a defense that has played well thus far. The post mentions that "Tice also said it is not out of the question that the team could re-align its defensive structure so that the only safety playing is Corey Chavous." This may work against a passing offense like the Falcons who only use three receivers (their fourth leading receiver has 20 yards) and may lead to more help containing Vick. Thankfully the Bye week comes right after and hopefully Sharper will be closer to recovered by then. Hopefully some of the injured players (Brian Williams, Henderson, and Johnstone) will be available for the Falcons game as the defense is getting depleted fast by injury.

Grocery Stores? [14 Sep 2005|07:01pm]

Is there a grocery store reasonable busing distance from the East Bank campus? I know there's a Rainbow (and a Target) like two exits up 35W, but the bus doesn't go all the way up there, thusly requiring about a half mile of walking, which will be a bitch with groceries. I also know that if you take the 2nd for like 20 minutes, it goes to an Aldes and a Co-op. I was just wondering if there was anything else (besides the little markets that charge you through the nose.)

After the storm [26 Aug 2005|02:20am]

The hurricane has already come and done its rounds. It was supposed to make landfall just northeast of us (thus only giving us the outside forces of the wind that you saw in the pictures in the previous post) and keep heading north, but it decided it would be more fun if it just baffled meteorologists and headed Southwest, cutting right through where I live with the brunt. All is well with the exception that there's a lot of debris, and that's kept me busy all morning. It was only a Category 1 hurricane, so nothing too bad, though a lot of houses are missing shingles and there was a little flooding in some parts. Right now it's raining just a bit again, so I'll finish the clean-up later. Gotta admit though, the weather after a storm is really nice. That and people are a lot friendlier (note to you northerners: people from Miami are not nice.) and will actually offer you help and such.

And the picturesCollapse )

All the pictures (I woke up especially early for them!) are available here. Anyhow, back to clean the mess, I suppose.

What's it like outside? [25 Aug 2005|08:02pm]

Basking in mother natureCollapse )

Power's only gone down twice so far. Hah. Coffee and cookies with a storm in the background is a total winner though. Pussy ass Hurricane Katrina. I used to have a crush on a girl named Katrina in middle school (along with every other guy) and she was a much bigger bomb than this!

Move-in! [25 Aug 2005|01:15pm]

Mmmm, I move-in in exactly one week. Whoo, Sanford! Oh yeah, what exactly is the difference between bunking beds and lofting beds? That's definitely a northern thing.

On another note, getting hit by a hurricane today. Awesome!

Hello, my name is Margo, and I have a problem. [16 Aug 2005|04:47pm]

[ mood | Indecisive ]

I have this thing with perpetually switching up my scedual docket. 'Cause I'm like that.

So here's my thing:
There's a class I really REALLY want, (Issues in the Enviroment or something like that, but it's bitching about how things are goin' down the drain for a physics credit, which I ent likely to fufill accidently 1000 times.) which requires me to switch my French class from 9 to 12. But......The Lab Is At EIGHT IN THE MORNING! I hate the morning. I've been seeing lots of sunrises lately, but that's 'cos I ent been to bed yet.

But I really like this class.

Slackers... [16 Aug 2005|03:39am]

Damn, what happened here? Lousy lightning storm fried half the electronics in my house (leaving me without internet for two and a half weeks) and I get back to find one update. Whatever happened to that initial surge of energy and all?

I do wonder if anybody else realizes that we only have like two weeks until we're moving in heh. Thought it was worthy to note.

P.S. Lightning storms aren't a common occurrence up there, are they?

Because I can [16 Jul 2005|05:05pm]

So, I dropped some classes and got some new ones, because honestly, what does the university expect of me, when they've got everything online?

Now I've got Arabic at 2:30 everyday (A new section opened. :D) instead of two days a week for two hours in the night.
Honours Intro to Linguistics (Perhaps taking a class pertaining to my major? Perhaps.)
Honours World Liturature in English because Rate my Professor says the teacher is good and I loves me some English class.
And still taking 4th semester French at 9 in the morning. Shoot me in the face.

And now I'm taking 18 credits instead of 17. So much for my father's theory that forbidding me from taking more than 4 classes will keep my work load down.
